We gave this kettle to my father-in-law for his birthday (he's been forgetful with regular kettles on the stovetop)who enjoys hot and iced tea regularly. They really love it, heats up fast and SAFE! Great price and looks nice on the counter. They have had no problems and use the item multiple times a day for 7 months now.

Hi,

If you are like me and is considering purchasing this product so you don't boil water in any sort of plastic container, then beware:

Though this kettle is entirely stainless steel on the inside as well as the outside, there are two little holes on the inside, near the handle, where the water goes through for the water indicator. Unfortunately, these two holes are insulated (waterproofed) with some sort of rubber/soft plastic substance, and the water indicator itself is made out of plastic rather than glass.

Besides that, this kettle does its job very well and I think most of the other reviews already pointed out the goodness and flaws of it.

UPDATE 02/19/2010:
This kettle is still going strong and survived 2 house moves with no problems. Seems pretty durable. I found I actually wished it can boil more water than the 1.75L, as it is a very convenient kettle, and, of course, the outter shell being too hot during water boiling, like the other reviews mentioned.

After traveling to Australia for three weeks, my parents returned with many stories. One was a side note about how every hotel room they stayed in had an electric tea pot, and they had tea every single day, sometimes more then once. I didn't see a different between a microwaved cup of water and a tea kettle, but since my Dad raved about the convenience, I thought it would make a perfect Christmas gift for someone who is notorious for 'having everything.'

I searched online, read reviews, and contemplated. I wanted to get him a nice kettle...not something that would break after two weeks. I found the Chef's Choice and liked how it looked, liked the price, and was pleased with the positive reviews. So I purchased it and gifted to Dad.

Since Christmas my Dad has emailed, texted, and called to say how much he loves this Kettle. My mom even tells me how great it is whenever she is drinking tea while talking to me on the phone. Who knew this would be such a hit?

They love how fast it is, how great it looks on the kitchen counter, and the size is perfect. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

I had this kettle once before until my mom borrowed it and loved it so much she never returned it! This kettle has a fast heat up time, the sides really do not get as hot as the older one I had, the spout is large but as always with hot water be careful when pouring! The base and bottom of unit stay cool to the touch. Water in the pots stays hot for a long time. I use this at home and at work. Easy to clean, and looks great too.

I purchased his kettle on June 11th and got it promptly from DS Home Solutions. DS Home Solutions was great. The Kettle worked terrifically for 3 months. However, after this short time of normal use... (we used it almost every day, once a day and today is June 23) the lever to start it would actuate, but the kettle would not turn on. It quit working. I would recommend that Chef's Choice re-engineer the thermostat and re-evaluate whether it is more economical to produce this kettle in China or the US. I'll not be purchasing another of their products... Until it's made in the USA.

We bought this 7 weeks ago. Its price of $54 is more than double of similar ones sold at Costco. So, we thought we are buying a high-end top quality electric kettle.
Last week we noticed flaking/peeling of paint or coating on the handle. Unfortunately, Amazon tells us since we missed the 6 week return window by one week, and as such this cannot be returned.

Another problem is that if your hand touches the outside during operation, it is very hot!

Next time, we will look at costco, which has no such limited return policy.
